Dear colleagues & friends of recovered Carbon Black,

Here is your October dose of recovered Carbon Black news. We now have 6.192 subscribers. Thank you for your interest in the circular economy!

In this month's edition we talk about :

  • Construction of a recovered carbon black demo plant in Portugal

  • ‍  ‍

  • Visit to the SENAI Polymer Institute in Porto Alegre

  • ‍  ‍

  • The SLTC Rubber & Recycling Days in Lima, Peru

  • ‍  ‍

  • The upcoming Smithers rCB Conference and the pre-conference rCB workshop

  •

Construction of an rCB demo plant in Portugal

On my way to Sao Paulo/Brazil, I could spend some time with my business friend Germano and I captured some film clips on the construction site of his rCB demo plant in Ourém/Portugal. This demo plant is of 1/8 scale and will produce 2 tons or rCB per day. The oil refining line is currently being constructed and you can already see vessels and heat exchangers. Have a look at this video clip!

Visit to the SENAI Polymer Institute

The invited me to visit their very impressive facility in Porto Alegre/Brazil and to present about the circular economy with tires. Of course I made a short video clip about this visit, too. While not yet working with recovered carbon black, I think that this could be a future activity where SENAI could support the rCB value chain in and outside of Brazil.

SLTC Rubber & Recycling Days in Lima, Peru

The Jornadas Caucho ("Rubber Days") and Jornadas Reciclaje ("Recycling days!) in Lima, Peru, were 2 parallel conferences run by the Sociedad Latinoamericana de Tecnología del Caucho on Sept 18th-22nd. My "r" sounds very German, but I am proud to have presented and conversed the whole week in Spanish.

I presented in the Recycling Days about "Latest technical advances in recovered carbon black" and I also took part in a very balanced speaker panel about tire pyrolysis, lead by  Maria Pina-Heller  and featuring  Juan Daniel Martínez ,  Manuel Chávez-Delgado ,  Jorge Delaveau Conley  and myself. The Recycling Days were brilliantly organised by an SLTC committee including  Emanuel Bertalot ,  Karina Potarsky ,  Maria Paz Sanchez Amono ,  Patricia Malnati  and others.

In the Rubber Days, I had a longer presentation titled "Specifications helping the growth of the recovered carbon black industry". In this longer presentation I covered tire, carbon black and recovered carbon black history and synergies between those three, up to the definition of specifications for recovered carbon black, which for me are pivotal to the commercialisation and commoditisation of recovered carbon black.

rCB Conference & pre-conference workshop

On November 6th - 8th we will meet for the recovered Carbon Black Conference 2023 in the Gran Hyatt Tower Hotel in Barcelona, Spain.

Already now, the event promises to be epic. With 240 colleagues participating, it will be the most important industry event this year, providing you the best source of news and business opportunities.

On the 6th of November, I am running an introductory workshop on recovered carbon black which is tailored for both technical and non-technical people to understand recovered carbon black. You can book the workshop in addition to the conference on the Smithers website. I will have some surprises for you in the workshop!

If you are interested in last minute sponsoring, my team colleague  Ellie Baker  at Smithers can still provide opportunities for this, for example an opportunity to sponsor a drinks reception on Nov 6th, the day before the conference or a nice table top in the Expo of the conference.

PS: The event hotel appears to be booked out already, but you will find plenty of alternatives closer to Barcelona city.

Thanks

Thank you for reading! Please leave your feedback in the comment section!

Take care and see you in Barcelona for the rCB Conference,

Martin
