Dear colleagues & friends of recovered Carbon Black,
Welcome to our May 2005 dose of curated recovered Carbon Black and related news! The views and opinions in this newsletter are my own.
The month of May is still young. Later on, on May 12th-13th will be the Smithers Carbon Black World Conference in Dallas Fort Worth, USA, where I will present about alternative forms of carbons, including methane blacks, recovered Carbon Black and bio-fillers.
In this edition of the rCB Newsletter, we explore the cradle of recovered Carbon Black. We interview John (Jack) Fader , who pioneered the first application development for what was previously called "pyro blacks" and now is called "recovered Carbon Black".
We currently have7.166 subscribers and we also currently have 966 members in the LinkedIn rCB group Martin & friends: recovered Carbon Black "rCB" and tyre pyrolysis
The Navy SEAL who pioneered recovered Carbon Black
Listen to John (Jack) Fader, a retired Navy SEAL and expert engineer, who worked directly with the President of General Motors in the 90s to tackle scrap tires and end-of-life vehicles. Jack talks about his groundbreaking work in advancing pyrolysis to economically upgrade scrap tires into valuable commodities like pyro char. But he also talks about difficulties through business scams and finally reveals what the real "secret" to high-yield raw recovered carbon black production is.
Jack's recommendations are inspiring, simple and instrumental for the progress of the rCB industry. They reveal over 30 years of experience with the topic. Yet, Jack stays very humble and pragmatic. I am grateful and honoured to have been able to record this video with Jack.
Watch the video interview below and please leave a greeting for Jack in the comments!
For convenience, I have set up chapter markers, so that you can snack topics as you like.
PS: If you liked this interview video, say hi to Jack in the comments!
Stay tuned as we have interviews with two other "Grand Hommes of rCB", Jean-Paul BOUYSSET and François Terrade coming up!
Late addition: NEXEN TIRE supply agreement with LD Carbon
In a May 7th press release, NEXEN TIRE announces a long-term supply agreement with LD Carbon (LDC). Congrats team NEXEN TIRE and team LD Carbon (LDC)!
John Bosco Kim, CEO of NEXEN TIRE said “𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐄𝐒𝐆 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬.”
NEXEN TIRE wrote in the press release that it "plans to use recovered Carbon Black from production facilities across the world, including China, the Czech Republic, and factories in Korea."
This of course raises speculations about the companies involved. Chinese rCB supplier companies could be Ecostar or Kleantire, while the Czech company could be the Pyrum/Suas project and the other South Korean suppliers could be SK Energy or Kumho Petrochemical.
